Howdy do there,
Attached is a Word document that has the minutes from our July 11th meeting and also a schedule of events for the upcoming HHW collection. If you see any errors or omissions please let me know and I'll get corrections out. Also, look the HHW schedule of events over carefully and let me know if I forgot anything.
Peter
Gray Solid Waste & Recycling Committee
Meeting Minutes for Wednesday,
July 11th, 2007, 5:30 p.m., Stimson Hall
Attendance: Randy Cookson, Margaret Hutchins, Laura Lepine, Jewel McHale, Gary Foster, Pete Thoits

Review of monthly Transfer Station Data.
Recycling bins to sell at the Transfer Station. Update and discussion:
New development: the solid waste committee has been allowed to carry over its allocation from last year and add it to this years allocation giving the committee $3000 to work with.
Randy will contact Portland Public Works to find out their source for recycling bins.
I sent an email to Windham and Gorham public works departments requesting their sources of bins. I will follow up with phone calls. Brian will call known vendors.

Hazardous Household Waste Collection (HHW): Time to crank up the promotional machinery!
HHW will take place in Gray on Saturday, August 25th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The committee will use the same methods to publicize the HHW event. (Trash Talk articles, leaflets handed out at the transfer station, information sent to lake associations, advertisement in the Gray/New Gloucester Independent News and the Monument.
I have the email addresses for the Little Sebago Lake Association and the Crystal Lake Association, but I cannot find the Forest Lake Association email address. Randy said he could get it again.
New Gloucester will definitely participate w/ Gray at the HHW collection. N.Yarmouth and Pownal have not committed.
Schedule of events for the weeks leading up to the HHW collection is below.
Please send along one or more dates and times you would be available to hand out leaflets at the transfer station.

Trash Talk articles: Updated schedule.
Brian S. "Illegal Dumping" Brian will circulate an article for review by the weekend of July 21-22.
Jewel M. "Recycling Room by Room" with a focus on the HHW collection. Jewel will circulate an article for review by August 04-05.
Who's next????

PAYT / Improve Recycling project: Focus is review Gray SW ordinance.
Jewel provided lists of definitions from various other ordinances. She will send them around via email. She has also found a format from the State Planning Office. Jewel will lead the discussion when we continue our review of Gray's recycling ordinance at our next meeting.

Open season: What's up Doc?
Laura Lepine will meet with the town council on Tuesday, July 24th to finalize her membership with the committee! Excellent!

August 25th (Saturday)
Take turns calling Pete at 7 a.m. in the morning to tell him that EPI cancelled at the last minute and he'll have to face the wrath of the residents of four towns by himself….. and good luck with that, Pete!
No, really, volunteers from the Gray recycling committee meet at the salt & sand shed between 7:30 and 8 a.m. to set up for the HHW collection. There should be a least three committee members. I will definitely be there. Besides coffee, what would volunteers like for breakfast?
Peter will bring a folding table and some duct tape and masking tape.
We will need several colors of magic markers to make direction signs.
Work the collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and help break down after the event.
