Hello you lucky people! It's that time again! Attached is the agenda for this month's meeting. Our primary focus will be to continue with the definition portion of the solid waste ordinance.
One of the agenda items involves starting the nomination process of someone from Gray for the ecomaine Eco Excellence award. Here's some information from Shelly Dunn of ecomaine on their timetable for this:
Due to conflicting events scheduled in 2008, we have planned for the next Award applications to be made available on January 1, the deadline will be February 1, and the Awards Luncheon/Meeting will be February 28. I have attached the information mailed in 2007 to give you an idea of what to expect in 2008 (I expect there will be few, if any, changes in the application). Every eligible community that submits a nominee will have one winner and, then, a Grand Award is given to the best of those (judging is done by the ecomaine Recycling Committee members).
I've attached a copy of last year's entry form so we get an idea of what they're looking for.

We got recycle bins, people! After following up on the artwork for the Town of Gray seal, Brian placed the order for the recycle bins. He called on Tuesday, October 02 to let me know that they would be delivered on Thursday of the same week! Whew!

eco-Excellence Award
Entry Form – Due Wednesday, April 4
One trophy will be presented for the best recycling activity submitted in each ecomaine municipality (please see the list of member communities, below). From the municipal award recipients, one will be selected as the grand winner to receive a special gift.
All award recipients will be invited to a special luncheon, held in their honor, on Tuesday, April 24 in Portland. The luncheon will allow recipients to network regionally, be photographed for news releases, and to tour the new $3.7 million ecomaine single-stream recycling facility, due to be opened the following week.
To help other communities, the ideas and accomplishments of each community’s award recipient will be shared on the ecomaine website and will be made available in print to anyone in Maine.
· All entries for will be judged by the ecomaine Recycling Committee for:
-effectiveness / results
-community impact
-increased awareness
-ease of replication
· Both self-entry and the nomination of others are encouraged; we also encourage ecomaine board members to make
nominations.
· Award recipients may be individuals, groups, businesses or organizations.
· The recycling activity or effort must have occurred in 2006 or be on-going.
· There are no age requirements.
· Nominees must live in or work in the municipality for which the award will be given.
