Matthew Sturgis has been a Town Councilor for the Town of Gray since July, 2008. He has graduated from the Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Political Science in 1991. Since that time Matt has participated in many boards, associations, and organizations including The American Lung Association, Greater Portland Council of Governments, and the New Gloucester Board of Selectmen. He still holds the titles of State Representative, Education Chairman, and Treasurer for the Maine Chapter International Association of Assessing Officers and at one time was President here in addition to holding this title at the Northeastern Regional Association of Assessing Officers.

Matt is a certified Appraiser working for his own company, Sturgis Appraisals, here in Gray. He has also been working for the Town of Cape Elizabeth, serving as their Tax Assessor since February, 2000.  

When Matt is not providing his time and expertise to work his most enjoyable moments are spent with his wife, Amy, and daughters, Alex and Liza Jane. You may see Matt around the Gray area practicing for an upcoming marathon, most of his spare time however is devoted to his family, home improvements, and working with the land.
