2006-06-01.Dry Mills Schoolhouse Meeting Minutes
Dry Mills School Meeting
June 1, 2006
9:30 a.m., Stimson Hall

Present:        Bob Quigley, Rachelle Blais, Louise Knapp, Beverly Prince, Pat St. Pierre, Nancy McMinn.

Secretary’s Report:     Read and accepted. Louise questioned the last time that Michelle Guerard brought her class.  It was 3 years ago (June 2003).

Visitors (Trip Cancelled):      Inclement weather cancelled the visitors who were coming from Biddeford Middle School and the home schoolers from Unity.  Unity may re-schedule.

Visitors:       Second graders from Durham came with about 30 children on May 18th.    Shirley Reid was the teacher presenter.  Rachelle and Cora were also at the school to assist with the children.

Two classes of 3rd graders came from the Dunn School on May 24th.  Louise told us about her tour through Gray with these children, then on to the Dry Mills School.  Shirley Reid was the Teacher Presenter.  The entire program went very well.

Visitors coming:        Michelle Guerard’s class from our own G/NG Middle School will be at the Dry Mills School on June 7th, from 8:30 to 1:30.  Michelle will conduct her own class, committee members and volunteers will rotate their time at the building, only as building supervisors, not to be involved with class activities.  Bob and Louise said they could be there to open the building for her and stay until about 11:00 and Pat St. Pierre will also be around to assist.  Shirley and Nancy will go up around 11:00 and remain until
someone else shows.    We discussed having Warren Jensens’ students come and take pictures and perhaps make a disk.  Then Cable TV expressed desire to do this.

Diplomas:       Louise has designed a diploma that can be given out to school children who visit the Dry Mills School.  They have been given out to the Dunn 3rd graders and the Durham 2nd graders who came.

The Norlands in Livermore:      Louise has been in contact to see if perhaps a group of us could go and see their program.

Quill Pens:     Nancy emailed to the Norlands to see if they could tell us where we can purchase these.  Louise suggested that perhaps we have a group of children come to the school and make them if we could get some feathers.

Painting the windows:   It was suggested that perhaps we could get an Eagle Scout to organize a crew to do this.   It was suggested that the present paint needs to be checked for lead.  Pat suggested that she knew of a person who would probablydo this test for us.

Material for Curtains:  Pat St. Pierre brought in 4 samples of material in colors.  These came from Windham Fabrics by Baum Textiles Mills (1-866-842-7631).  We want to use a fabric representing the mid 1800’s.  Louise is going to contact the Calico Basket in Windham to see if she could get us a discount.  Whatever material that we use will have to be lined with muslin.  We wish to cover the window with curtains to keep the echo down when people speak.  This was tabled until the next meeting.

Louise spoke of a special window covering that they use at the Shakers in their window.  Quite expensive but does not allow the sun to fade items inside and would also keep the dust out.

Meeting adjourned: at 11:45.

Next Meeting:   July 6. 9:30 a.m. at Stimson Hall.
