Schoolhouse Committee Meeting Minutes
February 15, 2010
Present: Committee Secretary & Treasurer Jennifer Dupuis, committee members Christina Kuchinski, Charlena Walker, and Audrey Burns. Also present was Council Liaison Mark Grover. Meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M.
$11.04 was owed to Charlena Walker for the purchase of 6 additional schoolhouse keys. Charlena declined reimbursement, stating she wished to make this a gift. Thank you, Charlena!
Committee members were once again reminded that the positions of Treasurer and Chairperson were vacant. Also, Jennifer Dupuis asked if any volunteers would be willing to organize a file box of documents passed on by previous committee Secretary Bob Quigley. Charlena Walker volunteered for this task and took the file box.
Mark Grover stated he felt the committee’s presentation to town council requesting funds for upcoming repairs to the schoolhouse was well done if not a bit long. The determination for funding will be made known by July 1st. It was recommended by Mark Grover that the committee proceed with scheduling the volunteer labor of the Windham Correctional Center to do two of the three repairs in July. Jennifer Dupuis will follow up with this.
Audrey Burns and Charlena Walker will research and complete a grant application to request matching funds for the three needed repairs to the schoolhouse. The goal is to have this application submitted to Doug Webster within a month. As the Dry Mills Schoolhouse is a town-owned building, the grant application must be submitted by the town of Gray.
It was proposed that the committee begin looking at establishing a “Friends of the Schoolhouse” group in order to build a support base for the schoolhouse in years to come. It was recommended by Mark Grover that this plan be put aside in order to focus on filling the two vacant alternate committee member openings. This idea was informally approved, and the question was raised if the committee openings could be filled by non-Gray residents. Audrey Burns knows of two past schoolhouse members who may be interested in joining the committee. Neither of these possible members resides in Gray.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:04 P.M. The next schoolhouse meeting will be March 15th at 6:30 P.M. at Stimson Hall.
