2010-07-19 Dry Mills Schoolhouse Committee Minutes
Schoolhouse Committee Meeting Minutes

July 19, 2010

Present:  Committee Secretary & Treasurer Jennifer Dupuis, committee members Christina Kuchinski, Charlena Walker, and Audrey Burns.  Also present was Council Liaison Mark Grover.  Meeting was called to order at 6:35 P.M.

 Leave starting in August.

Mark Grover presented an “open” sign that will be used at the schoolhouse upon its re-opening.  Thanks Mark!  He will also place a notice at the schoolhouse to alert visitors that the schoolhouse is presently closed for repairs.

An announcement was made that Mark Grover was re-elected as liaison to the Dry Mills Schoolhouse Committee for another term.

The committee reviewed the work and estimated costs to proceed with two of three schoolhouse repairs:  Increased floor support and adequate attic ventilation.  Potential roof repair will not be addressed until the committee receives further input from Ryan Keith to determine the urgency of this repair.

The committee voted unanimously to endorse the expenditure of up to $1,000 of its designated land sale funds IF NO OTHER FUNDS ARE MADE AVAILABLE to purchase materials and pay for delivery for the aforementioned two repairs.  Mark Grover will communicate this endorsement to Deb Cabanas, Town Manager.

An additional motion was made and passed unanimously by all committee members present that the floor support be increased to accommodate up to 30 people in the schoolhouse at a time.

Charlena Walker will contact Ryan Keith in these matters and report at the next meeting.

Jennifer Dupuis will contact Bob Hudson at the Windham Correctional Center to confirm that he and his group of volunteer laborers are available to complete the repairs.

Mark Grover confirmed that a note of “Closed for Repairs” is now posted on the schoolhouse museum door.

Charlena Walker brought to the committee’s attention the need to have the schoolhouse windows puttied.  She will endorse Ed Milos of Grounds and Maintenance to do this task.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:15 P.M.  The next schoolhouse meeting will be August 16th at 6:30 P.M. at Stimson Hall.

Charlena Walker will be Acting Chairperson through January and Christina Kuchinski Acting Secretary, respectively, through January as well while Jennifer Dupuis is on leave.
