Dry Mills Schoolhouse Committee Meeting
Minutes for November 15, 2010
Present: Acting Committee Chairperson Charlena Walker, Acting Committee Secretary Christina Kuchinski, committee member Audrey Burns, and Council Liaison Mark Grover.
Meeting called to order at 6:34 PM.
v Minutes from meeting held on September 20, 2010 were read by Audrey Burns and approved by the committee.
v Treasurer’s Report: Before our next meeting in January we need to find out how much money we have in our fund for the schoolhouse.
v The Town Council members attended a tour of the schoolhouse. Also present were schoolhouse committee members Charlena Walker, Audrey Burns, and Christina Kuchinski. The town council appeared to be enthusiastic and attentive with regard to the list of repairs we as a committee wish to see completed so that we can reopen the schoolhouse to the public. Unfortunately the occasion was slightly marred by the discovery of some minor vandalism that took place while the schoolhouse was closed. Unknown persons had obtained access to the schoolhouse through a window. They proceeded at some point to throw
slate chalk all over inside the schoolhouse. The Maine State Police were notified and they sent a trooper over to investigate.
v Charlena Walker notified the committee that the repairs to the schoolhouse would not begin until the spring. Unfortunately Windham Correctional does not have enough manpower at this time to repair the building before the snow flies. Our project however will be first on the list for next spring. Charlena will call Ryan Keith (Building Department) in April as a reminder.
v The committee voted to not have a meeting in December.
v Proposed for January’s meeting: Ways to get community involvement with regard to the schoolhouse
o Media coverage
o Open House – Historical Society, local newspaper coverage
o New committee members
v Donations for the schoolhouse – How are they handled? Charlena will also speak with the town manager regarding possible petty cash for supplies for the schoolhouse
v Supplies needed: Slate chalk
v Anticipated opening: 1st of June
Meeting adjourned at 7:13 PM
Respectfully Submitted,
Christina Kuchinski, Acting Committee Secretary
