1. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Jeanne
2. Discussion with the Village Master Plan Committee took place to introduce architectural standards into the Town Zoning Rules for the first part of the meeting. The consensus is that the Town should have some broad architectural requirements for new construction and facilities being renovated. This will encourage developers to propose designs that are consistent with existing nearby construction to maintain and improve the architectural appearance of the community (Consistent with Comprehensive Plan). It was suggested that different architectural standards are appropriate for different sections of Town. In the VAP and Village
Center sections an old colonial appearance is the architecture that was recommended by the Comprehensive Plan and it seems logical to have guidelines that maintain and expand this design. In summary “encourage architectural guidelines in line with the Town’s heritage and appearance.” The group believes the most practical approach is to submit a very broad and general architectural guidelines statement to ORC for consideration for the Town Zoning Rules to reinforce the desire and commitment of the Town to maintain and support the Town’s heritage and appearance without cumbersome rules and regulations. The group stated that some guidelines on signage and fences and barriers might be desirable to achieve appearance continuity in the village center and the VAP sections. Jeanne Adams offered to prepare a proposed standard on architectural guidelines to discuss and review at the next meeting.
