2010-04-13 Library Trustee Minutes

MINUTES FROM LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING – APRIL 13, 2010
PRESENT: KATHY, JOYCE, STEVE, MARIE, MARK AND RAY CLARK
CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:32 PM

Ray reported for the GPLA - $6,000 was given to the town from the GPLA to fund the basement project and to reconfigure the first floor: the estimate for the basement was $3,000 and Tucker Library Materials is charging about $2,000 for their floor plans. Ray thought that the money should come from the town for these projects and didn’t feel the council really appreciated what the GPLA was offering. Ray would like the town to hire the contractor for the work to be done – he will speak with the Town Manager about authorized spending. Time frame for work: possibly August for upstairs, basement to be done before that.
We spoke about the removal by the Town Council from capital improvement of the shelving and AED. The shelving project is on hold due to the reconfigure project. Funding for both items could come from the Library fund which is how the 2 new computers were purchased. The Trustee account is at $6,500 and can be spent as we see fit. Mark urged us to spend it on a good cause as it will attract attention. We will look at other funding options with more members present next month.

No secretary’s report.

Director’s report – numbers were down a bit, possibly because of the cut in service hours, no Tuesday story time and better weather.

Budget – other than capital cuts things are looking good.

WiFi – many libraries responded to Marie’s request on how they handled their situation: 3 use passwords, 3 turn their’s off at nite and the rest leave it on. If our library staff computers are turned off at nite there is no access available to the system.

No change in services brochure.

No old business.

New business – since there were few members present it was suggested that we all look at the MLA standards and chose one to work on and meet.

Interlibrary loans – system is working well for Gray; it’s a good schedule. Right now the cost is $11.00 per day that a delivery/pickup is made – the cost may go to $18.00 / day. There are 150 libraries participating in the program. Gray gets 4 deliveries per week – we pay for 3 & the state pays the other.

Suggested reading: “This Book Is Overdue” a new book about the future of libraries.
Lecture series – Kate Braestrup will be at the Library on Thursday April 29th at 2:00 PM.
Meeting adjourned at 7:40.

Respectfully submitted,
Steve Arsenault
