2007-10-10 Solid Waste Recycling Committee Meeting Minutes
   Hello all,
Attached is a Word document that has the minutes from our last meeting. They're a bit sketchy.
I've asked Laura and she has agreed to be the scribe at our meetings. I confess I haven't always done a consistent or timely job of getting meeting minutes to you. In the future, she will publish and distribute the minutes. I appreciate this very much.

Gray Solid Waste & Recycling Committee
Meeting Minutes for Wednesday,
October 10th, 2007, 5:30 p.m., Stimson Hall

We got recycle bins, people! After following up on the artwork for the Town of Gray seal, Brian placed the order for the recycle bins. He called on Tuesday, October 02 to let me know that they would be delivered on Thursday of the same week! Whew!
To promote the recycling bins we will do the following stuff:
a-1     Brian will see about getting a notice about the bins on Gray Public TV and on the Town of Gray website.
a-2     Laura and Peter will go to the October 16 town council meeting and make a statement to the council. Points: Thanks to the council for their support. Residents of Gray can take pride that Gray's recycling rate is 54.5%. Residents are expected to recycle as much solid waste as possible. The bins offer an opportunity to organize and recycle more.
a-3     Brian will write a Trash Talk article for publication during the week of October 15th.
a-4     Committee members will set up a bin sales table at the Gray Recycling Center during the weekend of October 21st and 22nd.

Review of monthly Transfer Station Data.
Figures were reviewed. It was noted that the tonnage sent to ecomaine has continued to decline slightly since the first quarter total was published. The reason for this down-trend is not completely understood at this time.

Trash Talk articles: Updated schedule.
Peter T.: Proposal for an article asking Gray residents for nominations for ecomaine eco excellence awared for 2008.
Brian S. "Illegal Dumping" or a different topic of his choice. Brian will circulate an article for review by the weekend of September 01-02.
Laura?
Brian will do an article for the week of October 15th.
Peter will write an article soon to ask Gray residents to nominate candidate for ecomaine's ecoexcellence award.

Improve Recycling project: Focus is review Gray SW ordinance.
Jewel will continue leading the discussion on the re-write of the solid waste ordinance.
Continued work on definitions for re-writing the solid waste and recycling ordinance for Gray.
Brian will research definitions for several items: A waste definition in 38 MSRA 130x something or other. Does the definition of "commercial property" in Gray include apartment buildings with more than four dwelling units? What is the maximum number of "dwelling units" that a residential property can contain in Gray?
Open season: What's up Doc?
a.      Jewel will take on a review and update of the Gray Transfer Station brochure. Randy will get an electronic copy of the current brochure to her.
