Meeting Minutes for Wednesday,
April 9th, 2008, 5:30 p.m., Stimson Hall
In Attendance: Randy Cookson, Peter Thoits, Margaret Hutchinson, Jewel McHale, Laura Lepine.
Review of Transfer Station Data: Wood was at 434 tons, brush at 69 tons, done in 2008, hurt recycling numbers for 2007, however we should still be at 50% - 51% recycling rate. Shingles due to go out, there will be an increase due to damage from winter storms. Plastics # 1-7 potentially to be sent to India this time instead of China, due to Olympics in August.
Compost Bins - Jewel looked into this and the price is $39.95 + tax and we would have to buy in quantities of 100 - inasmuch as the recycle bins haven't moved as fast as we would like, the decision has been made not to pursue sale of bins - perhaps refer out to a non-profit to sell.
Brian Shedlarski not in attendance, so no news on Earth Day - April 20.
Amnesty weekend for spring clean-up is April 25, 26, & 27. Extra help on this weekend, Peter and Laura available. Randy will pull up article for Spring Clean Up to send to local newspaper.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be on Aug 23. EPI to send quote. Peter will be contacting the towns of Raymond, New Gloucester, Pownal & North Yarmouth to see if they would like to participate this year.
Jewel headed discussion on definitions - started with Rubbish and ended with Town Disposal Facilities.
Other news of the Transfer Station: Randy to meet with Oest on April 10. Two new storage trailers have been moved into the transfer station.
Fall clean-up weekend is Aug 22, 23, & 24.
