Traffic Island in Front of Dunkin Donuts:
The Town Manager met with the Senior Traffic Engineer from the Department of Transportation (Randy Duncan) regarding the installation of the traffic island in front of Dunkin Donuts. The island has been installed and the surface of the southerly portion of Route 26 will soon be completed.
30 – Day Tax Notices to Delinquent Tax Payers for 2005/2006:
313 notices were sent Monday, July 24th to delinquent tax payers. The total amount of delinquent taxes is $325,261.93. As of this afternoon, $61,967.30 has been paid, leaving a balance of $263,294.63.
Rabies Diagnosed in Resident Wolf-hybrid:
Last week our animal control office became aware that a wolf-hybrid, owned by a Gray resident, was diagnosed with rabies. The owner of the animal also had another wolf-hybrid at home. The Maine Center for Disease Control was concerned that the other animal had been exposed to rabies and posed a potential health threat to the public. The animal control officer worked closely with the state epidemiologist and local law enforcement in securing the animal and notifying the tenants of the four-unit apartment where the animal owner currently lives. The closest available facility that is licensed by the state for this type of quarantine was the Kennebec Humane Society . The animal was obtained on Friday afternoon and transported to the Augusta facility. It is possible that the animal could be
held in quarantine for up to 6 months. At this time, the matter is in the hands of the Maine Center for Disease Control. On behalf of this community I would like to thank Heather Phinney, our animal control officer, for her initiative and for professionally handling this potentially dangerous health situation as quickly as possible.
Respectfully,
Deborah Cabana
Town Manager
