Joint Leaders Meeting:
The next Joint Leaders meeting will be tomorrow, September 6, 2006 at the MSAD #15 Office Conference Room starting at 7:30 AM.
The Tax Rate:
Our Tax Assessor, Helen Taylor has completed the valuation work and committed the tax rate for the current fiscal year 2007. The tax rate has been set at $12.40 per $1000 of valuation, which is the same as last year. The tax bills have already been mailed to the names and addresses of property tax payers or their agents. The first installment will be due Monday, October 2, 2006 (October 1st is a Sunday) with the second installment due Monday, April 2, 2007 (April 1st is a Sunday). The initial tax bill does have two tabs to cover both of these installment payments. There will not be a second billing prior to the April 1, 2007 due date. Questions regarding the value of one’s property should be directed to Helen Taylor at 657-3112. Tax payers have
185 days within which they may file an appeal with Mrs. Taylor.
The town’s valuation is currently at 84%. Therefore, the homestead exemption will be reduced from $13,000 to $10,920 (161.20 to 135.40) and the veteran’s exemption will be reduced from $5,000 to $4,200 ($62.00 to $52.08). For property owners who receive this reduction, this represents $25.80 and $9.92 less reduction, respectfully.
Finance Committee Meeting:
The next Finance Committee meeting will be Thursday, September 14 at Stimson Hall starting at 7:30 AM. The first part of the meeting will be with the Town’s Auditing firm, Runyon, Kersteen and Ouellette and they will discuss the draft audit.
MMA Insurance Pool Refund:
Gray was recently notified by the MMA Pool that we would again receive a refund dividend check from the premiums paid into the pool. The amount of the refund will be $7,535, which will be recorded as additional revenue in this year. This reflects a good loss experience over the past year by the MMA Pool.
