In Recognition For: Service to the Town of Gray

Joseph McLellan came to North Gray in 1780’s, built a two story house, sawmill and small store.  About 1793 he opened the first store at Gray Corner in a front room of this house, further establishing in 1795 Gray’s first Post Office, where he was Postmaster.  He represented Gray at the General Court of Massachusetts and in 1819 represented the town at the signing of the State Constitution.
