According to the Portland Press Herald, "Voting Down the Rose offers a fascinating peek at the fight for women’s suffrage in Maine."

Meet author Anne B. Gass at the Gray Public Library on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30 pm where she will discuss her book about Maine suffragette, Florence Brooks Whitehouse, her great-grandmother.

Voting Down the Rose is a lively account of Maine native Florence Brooks Whitehouse's efforts to win women voting rights in the decisive final years of the campaign, 1914-1920. Considered radical for picketing the White House, Florence helped win women suffrage against a backdrop of conservative views of women's roles, political intrigues, WWI, and the 1918 influenza epidemic. This event is free and open to all!

Books will be available for purchase.

Light refreshments will be served.
