Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum on Track

Alice Richards of CMP presents the Release Deed to Sharon Hicky, President of MNGRR Board of Trustees

Representatives of the Town of Gray, Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad (MNGRR), Gray Plaza, Gray-New Gloucester Development Corporation (GNGDC), and Gray residents attended a ceremonial deed transfer between the excursion railroad company and Central Maine Power (CMP) on Friday, April 11th.

"This is the key to progress for the project to move forward," said Donnell Carroll, executive director of MNGRR. "The right-of-way along the former rail-bed of the Portland–Lewiston Interurban provides the necessary path for us to proceed."

The deed transfer opens the path for MNGRR to move most of their operations to Gray by 2016 if plans are realized.

In an interview Wednesday, Carroll explained that the right-of-way is a two-plus-mile stretch of land where new track will run. The swath is the old corridor of a high-speed electric trolley — the Portland–Lewiston Interurban trolley line, dating from 1914-1933.
