Traffic Alert: Rolling Roadblock for CMP Work Sept 26

Contractors working for Central Maine Power are installing optical ground wire (OPGW) on structures in transmission Section 208, which runs from the Raymond Substation off Meadow Road (Route 121) in Raymond, through parts of Gray and New Gloucester, to the Surowiec Substation off Allen Road in Pownal. This state-of-the-art equipment will enhance CMP’s ability to operate its substations remotely and allow them to provide more reliable service to homes and businesses in the area.

Crews are working 10-hour days, seven days a week, to finish this project in the limited time available. The work involves activity both on the ground and from helicopters overhead. CMP crews are using all appropriate measures to ensure minimal disruption to the public and to protect the environment.

The only impact on traffic involves a crossing over Interstate 95/Maine Turnpike in Gray, about half a mile north of the Mayall Road overpass. Weather permitting, CMP expects to begin a rolling roadblock on Friday, September 26, at 10 AM to allow crews to safely install the wire over the highway.

CMP is working with the Maine Turnpike Authority and Maine State Police to ensure that any traffic impact will be minimal and brief. In case of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled to Saturday, September 27.

Best of all, CMP expects to complete this project with no power interruption to area homes and businesses.
