Kurt Elkanich

Chief Elkanich, a resident of Gray for the last thirty years, has been a member of Gray Fire Rescue for over twenty years and became Fire Chief in October 2015. Before being promoted to Fire Chief, he served as the Deputy Chief, Safety in the call department. 

In addition to serving as the Fire Chief, Chief Elkanich serves as the Local Emergency Management Director, the Town of Gray Safety Committee Chair, and the Regionalization Working Group for our area. Chief Elkanich is also on the Board of Directors for the Cumberland County Chief’s Association and Cumberland County Regional Communications.  He also serves on the Fire Department Working Group and the Radio Committee for Cumberland County Regional Communications Center.  

Chief Elkanich is a South Portland High School graduate who attended the University of Southern Maine. He recently obtained his certification from the State of Maine to teach National Incident Command System classes and is also a CPR instructor.
