Playground Opening
Gray's newest playground officially opened with a big crowd.

The Town of Gray is happy to announce a new playground is now open near the Pennell Municipal Complex at 24 Main Street in Gray.

Members of the Gray Town Council, Sebago Lakes Chamber of Commerce Board President Deb McPhail, Robin Millins, the chamber's executive director, key members of Town staff who shepherded the project, and plenty of kids who stand to benefit from the playground were all on hand to celebrate the playground's opening on May 24, 2022.

The playground, which is designed for up to 42 children ages 5-12, includes a zigzag slide, inclined cliff hanger, a deep-rung arch climber, a rope net climber, a stump jump, a chinning bar, a twist and twirl, a leg lift, five swings, one ADA-compliant swing, and a sandbox. Planned additions include a shade structure, a bench and picnic table, and a water fountain. The playground also features shade trees donated by Hort Resources of Gray, located at 201 Portland Road in Gray.

The Town issued a request for proposal for the project in May 2021, and the winning bid went to Ultiplay of Uxbridge, Massachusetts. This project was funded by a Community Development Block Grant, a program that’s administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant was awarded to Gray in May 2020.

Many thanks to Parks and Facilities Supervisor Dean Bennett, as well as former Town Planner KathyTombarelli, for spearheading the project, as well as the Town’s numerous Building and Grounds and Public Works staff who dedicated more than 200 hours of labor to make the playground look as great as it does.
