Is Gray Fire Rescue really a volunteer force? How can I become a member?

“The Town employs a full-time Fire Chief, a full-time Assistant Chief who is a Firefighter/Paramedic, and four two-person crews each consisting of a firefighter/paramedic and a firefighter/advanced EMT. These crews work in shifts of 24 hours on, 48 hours off, 24 hours on, and 96 hours off. We also have one per-diem shift every weekday from 0800 to 2000 and two per-diem shifts on the weekends.”

Gray Fire Rescue is a combination department, meaning we have both full-time and call personnel. Our call personnel actively participate in frequent training activities. To be covered by town insurance, local call members of Gray Fire Rescue become town employees and are paid any time they are responding to calls or attending approved trainings.
