Program Notification

This notice is posted pursuant to title 22 MRSA §4304-4305

The municipality of Gray, Maine administers a General Assistant program and General Assistance work program for the support of those who are in need of assistance. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA §4305, the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program.

A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at the town office or online.  Also available for inspection is a copy of the State’s General Assistance Statutes, as copies of the State law are made available to the municipality by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Persons who wish to apply to General Assistance may do so at the Gray Town Office during the following times:

Wednesday
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
By appointment ONLY call 657-3339 for appointment

In an EMERGENCY, applicants may call 211 or contact the Cumberland County Dispatch at 893-2810.

The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ toll-free telephone number, to call with a question regarding the General Assistance Program, is 1-800-442-6003 Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5 PM.
