In recognition for: Service to the Town of Gray

Evelyn Morrill Durgin (19 Mar 1920 - 6 Jun 2007) kept Gray Corner beautiful for many years, as she tended the grounds where the Civil War monument stood. The monument was located at the southern intersection at Gray Village, adjacent to her property & ancestral home. It was a labor of love for her.

She moved to the Morrill family’s brick home in Gray Village at the age of 5. Evelyn graduated from Pennell Institute in 1937 as valedictorian of her class and later attended both the University of Maine & Northeastern Business Shool. She married Paul Durgin in 1940 and gave birth to four children. Evelyn worked for the March of Dimes and volunteered for numerous local organizations.

In 2006, the Town of Gray established the Evelyn Morrill Durgin award in her honor. She was the first recipient of the community service award.
