In Recognition For: Service to the Town of Gray

Nicholas Winfield "Scott" Leighton (c.1847 - 18 Jan 1898) was a well-known artist who drew and painted horses.  His works became well known through the many art shows that he participated in throughout the country, including a show at Poland Spring Art Gallery in Poland Springs.  It was his work with Currier & Ives that brought him most fame.  He was born in Gray, Maine and lived in South Gray.
