Hill & Russell Added to Gray Honor Roll

At their February 6, 2018 meeting, the Gray Town Council approved the nominations of two notable Gray citizens to the Gray Honor Roll:

George Thomas Hill (1891-1978)

Historian, Author. He graduated from Pennell Institute in 1909, served in the United States Army during World War I as a Private and worked for many years as Gray's rural mail carrier. He was the author of History, Records, and Recollections of Gray, Maine, published in 1978.

George had a great memory for dates, times, and places. His book, History, Records, and Recollections of Gray, Maine is an invaluable historic reference.  

He lived in Gray his whole life.

Dr. Kenneth Russell (1913-1982)

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Richard Russell & Clara Horne, he moved to Gray in 1937.  He practiced medicine in Gray for 45 years, serving as Gray's school physician, as well as his own private practice from his home on Greenleaf Street.

He was instrumental in organizing the Gray Rescue unit in 1969, and serving on the unit as an officer and medical advisor.
