Gray Birdhouse Project

The Gray Birdhouse Project is a project of the Community and Economic Development Committee (CEDC) to celebrate community connection and promote wellness in Covid-times. A colorful birdhouses village will be located in the new Mircopark located at Gray Corner. Community-members are invited to finish an unfinished birdhouse to be included in the installation at 5 Yarmouth Road.

Many community activities were brought to a halt in 2020. The Gray Birdhouse Project recognizes that something was lost that is hard to describe. Friends we only saw at community events were missed. We miss cheering at sports events together, joining crowds at festivals, going out to eat and worshipping together. This time of social distancing, has been hard but we will make our inextricable connection to one another visible with Gray Birdhouse Project. We will get through this.

Unfinished birdhouses are available by donation while supplies last. If you sign up, the house will be dropped at your address for decorating as you wish. Designs can include paint or stain, embellishment or words. When finished they can be returned to Town Hall. Suggested donations are on a sliding scale of $5 to $45.  Businesses or community organizations may participate as well. Donations can be made to the project taking and decorating a birdhouse as well. All the birdhouses used in the Gray Birdhouse Project are appropriate for bird habitat. The installation will be limited to 30 of these houses at the selected site.

A smaller number of slightly larger birdhouses that are professionally designed by Birdhouses From Maine are also to be included in the installation for a suggested donation of $65-$85. These houses will come with custom features including custom colors, and a date plate (for example, "EST 2019"). Whimsical embellishments can be added on for $10, or provided for these designs.

Birdhouses will be collected by April 5th, 2021 and the installation will be completed in May. Participants can return them by bringing them to Town Hall when complete, or request a pick up. Please contact cedc@graymaine.org with questions!
