Route 26 Paving, MDOT Project 20865.00, is expected to begin today, July 10th, and continue until completion in on/about September 31st.  Work includes installation of 1 1/4" overlay beginning at Dunn Drive and heading towards the New Gloucester line – which is just shy of 3 miles.

In addition, MDOT Project 021848.00 will install centerline rumble strips along the section of Shaker Road starting at the 50 mph sign west of Game Farm Road to the island south of Sabbathday Road.

It is important to note that while this project will occur during the evening, there will be bright lights located on Route 26 for night work.  Additionally, there will be construction noise.  It is anticipated that construction will occur in a specific location for up to two or three days.

Project Information Points:

  • The paving - as well as any associated tasks such as rebuilding shoulders - will take place during the night (8pm to 6am) .

  • At this time, MDOT has indicated that there will not be any daytime lane closures.

  • MaineDOT will not be removing pavement, but there will be some but joint grinding

  • The grade stakes which are lining the street (located in front of everyone’s property) are marked station numbers for the contractor that correspond to their blueprints – they are not a reflection on the landowners.

  • Preventing deadly head on crashes has been a continuing focus for MaineDOT. Center line rumble strips have been found to be the best mitigation to prevent these crashes.  Read more...
