Twenty-six-year-old Captain Ben Cross died in August, in a training exercise off the coast of Australia. His body was recovered three weeks later and arrangements were made to bring him home to Maine.

Representatives of Gray Fire Rescue joined scores of others to welcome Capt. Cross home. They lined Interstate 95 as Thursday night's motorcade passed by on its way to Chandler’s Funeral Home where Marines carried his casket inside.

A Celebration of Life memorial was held at the Telstar Regional High School auditorium Saturday, Sept. 16, providing an opportunity for friends to pay their respects immediately afterwards. Following the memorial, the committal with full military honors was at the Riverside Cemetery on the North Road in Bethel.
