GNG Students "Best in State" in Verizon Innovative App Challenge

Governor LePage & Area Legislators Welcome
Gray-New Gloucester Students to the State House

Governor Paul LePage, State Representatives Ellie Espling (R-New Gloucester), Susan M. W. Austin (R-Gray), and Michael J. Timmons (R-Cumberland), along with students of Gray-New Gloucester High School’s International Baccalaureate Information Technology in a Global Society class, gather in the Governor’s Cabinet Room on Thursday, February 11.

The young people visited the capitol for the purpose of being recognized by lawmakers upon their being chosen as recipients of Verizon’s “Innovative App Challenge” Best in State Award.  The app, “Cultural Connect,” helps to connect people of all ages with other cultures around the world.

Governor LePage and the legislators were delighted to have these innovators and their advisor, Matt Laney, as their guests at the capitol, while Representative Austin was overjoyed to introduce the students to the House Republican Caucus and to also accompany them on a brief tour of the State House.  Pictured in no particular order are:  Haley Cadran, Austin Gallant, Chloe Hedrich, Garrett Moran, Faithe Russell, Samantha Shampine, Governor LePage, Rep.
