Gray Village Cemetery Tour

Gravestones from the shop of Bartlett Adams, renowned stone-cutter of Maine.

The tour introduces Bartlett Adams, Portland's first stone carver. In business from 1800 to 1828, Bartlett’s shop produced more than 1,700 stones found throughout Maine, including The Gray Village Cemetery.

Tour Docent Ron Romano, from Eastern Cemetery’s Spirits Alive tours, will acquaint you with the man, his times, and show numerous examples of the precise and elegant hand carving of Bartlett Adams' shop.

The tour will begin at the Gray Historical Society, 1 Main St. (Old Fire Barn). The museum will be open 1/2 hour before & after the tour.

Admission is free but donations are requested ($5 suggested) which benefit the Gray Historical Society, Gray Public Library and Gray Cemetery Association (No Rain Date)
