Travel Advisory: Gray Toll Lane Closures

Please take note of the following travel advisory provided by Maine Turnpike Authority:

Emergency Repairs Scheduled for Gray (Exit 63) Toll Plaza
Significant morning delays and congestion expected June 13, 14 & 17

PORTLAND, Maine – Emergency repairs necessary to accurately charge E-ZPass tolls will require closing one of two toll lanes used by vehicles entering the Turnpike for southbound travel at Exit 63 in Gray. Motorists will likely experience long delays and much higher traffic volume on nearby roads, especially between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, Friday, June 14, and possibly Monday, June 17.

Work is expected to begin at approximately 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, with the contract calling for repairs to be done in five days, weather permitting. The Maine Turnpike Authority has scheduled the work to include the weekend to minimize impact on weekday commuters, and is expected to reopen the toll lane Monday, June 17.

The toll lane closure is necessary to repair damaged underground electronic vehicle sensors used to accurately calculate E-ZPass tolls in addition to concrete demolition, excavation and reinstallation.

Motorists can check MaineTurnpike.com, or call 800-675-PIKE (7453), in advance of the Monday, June 17 morning commute for more updated information and an estimated time of project completion. Similar updates will also be available by following the MTA on Facebook or Twitter.

There will also be a restriction for wide load vehicles over 8’6” wide. They will be prevented from entering the Turnpike for southbound travel throughout the project.

The Maine Turnpike Authority does not take the issue of potential travel delays lightly. Project managers know they have an impact on drivers and sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding.
