Gray Assessing Department Partaking in Annual Food Drive

The Gray Assessing Department is joining others across Maine in holding an Election Day “Thanks for Giving” food drive. Donations received will support the Gray Community Food Pantry. Please bring non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations to the polls on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7th, or during absentee voting.

Thanks for Giving was started in 2012 by the Town of Lyman Assessor Gina Merry. Gina’s food drive benefited Lyman’s local food pantry. Sadly, Gina lost her battle with cancer in 2016. The Town of Lyman decided to honor Gina’s memory by continuing the food drive in 2017.

Gina’s husband, Joe Merry, assessor in Standish, inspired both by his wife’s vision and Lyman’s decision to honor her memory, contacted his fellow assessors asking them to participate in Thanks for Giving food drives in their towns.
