Household Hazardous Waste Collection

For Residents and property owners of the Towns of Gray and New Gloucester with proof of residency required.

Acceptable materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Ammonia, Bleach, Degreasers, Disinfectants, Floor cleaners, Furniture polish, Moth balls, Oven cleaners, Pool chemicals, Rust removers, Silver cleaners, Toilet and drain cleaners, Acids (Muriatic, Sulfuric…), Corrosives.
  • Fertilizers, Fungicide, Herbicides, Pesticides, Roach and ant killers, Rodent poison, Weed killers.
  • Automobile cleaners, Chrome polish, Carburetor cleaner, Engine degreasers, Gasoline, Lacquer paints and thinners, Mineral spirits, Boat and automobile paints, Contact cement, Petroleum based driveway sealers, Roofing cement, Fiberglass resin, Wood preservatives, Paint stripper.

The following materials can be brought to the transfer station year round for disposal.

  • Motor oil, Transmission fluid, Power steering fluid, Anti-freeze, Diesel fuel, Home heating oil, Lead-acid batteries.
  • Latex and oil based paints and stains, in their original container, Aerosol cans, Propane tanks (30 gallon and under), Rechargeable batteries, Fluorescent light bulbs (residential only, no commercial), Mercury thermostats.
  • Fire extinguishers, Electronics (copiers, computers and accessories, stereos), Televisions.

The following materials are unacceptable at either the Household Hazardous Waste collection or the transfer station.

  • Biological or medical waste, Ammunition, explosives, flares and fireworks (contact State Police for disposal), Radioactive materials, Asbestos.

When transporting hazardous waste do not mix wastes together. Use original container if possible, or clearly label if contents are known. Do not transport within the passenger compartment of your vehicle.
