PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE - COVID-19

covid -19

To protect our residents and employees and to slow the spread of diseases such as COVID-19 and Seasonal Flu in the community at large, we ask that you follow the CDC guidelines listed below.

COVID-19 and/or the seasonal flu may present the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

If you are sick with COVID-19 or the flu or suspect you are infected with any virus, STAY AT HOME AND CONTACT YOUR MEDICAL CARE PROVIDER.

DO NOT GO TO WORK, SCHOOL, OR PUBLIC AREAS (SUCH AS THE TOWN HALL, LIBRARY, AND OTHER PUBLIC BUILDINGS). AVOID USING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, RIDE-SHARING, OR TAXIS.

As a precautionary measure, the Town has cancelled all scheduled social programs and social events at Town facilities until further notice. The annual Volunteer Awards Banquet set for April 8th has been cancelled and rescheduled for June 3, 2020.

Effective immediately, all recreation and library extracurricular community programs will be suspended. At this time, child-care programs will continue.   In the near future, we may need to consider closing public access to town buildings (Town Hall, Library/Fire/EMS/Public Works and Transfer Station) as it is our responsibility to protect our residents especially our elderly population.  As of this date (3/13/2020) official meetings of Town Boards and Committees will continue as scheduled. Many meetings are broadcast on cable channel 1301 and available for viewing at https://graytownme.iqm2.com/Citizens/calendar.aspx?Frame=%22No%22&View=Calendar. We encourage you to watch from home instead of attending.

Now, more than ever, we encourage residents to utilize our online/mail-in services  available at: https://www.graymaine.org/ . If you are unable to come to the Town Office due to an illness, or if you need assistance that is not available through our online services, please call the Town Hall at 657-3339 (Monday – Wednesday 8:30am-4pm, Thursday 8:30am–6:30pm, Friday 8:30am-noon) instead of coming to a Town facility. We will work with you to accommodate your needs as best as possible.

For the most accurate, up-to-date, and unbiased information on the Coronavirus, we recommend residents utilize the same sources below that the Town is using for guidance:

Resources

We encourage residents to stay informed by using trusted sources such as the US Centers for Disease Control (U.S. CDC) and the Maine Center for Disease Control (Maine CDC). The Maine CDC and 211 Maine announced Wednesday, March 11, 2020, a new option for Mainers to get answers to questions about the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) at any time. This free service is available by dialing 211 (or 1-866-811-5695), texting your ZIP code to 898-211, or emailing info@211maine.org

We are hopeful that with all of us working cooperatively together as a community we will minimize the effect of these viruses. Please share this information with your neighbors, friends, and family.
