Town Hall

Notice is hereby given that the Town of Gray, Maine is proposing Zoning Ordinance amendments (Chapter 402) and adopting a moratorium, both regarding self-storage facilities. The Town Council will hold a first reading for these proposed changes on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 to receive public comments. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing for these proposed changes on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m. and will be conducted virtually via Zoom videoconferencing. Links will be posted closer to the reading dates.

Proposed changes to Chapter 402 include: Changing the definition of “self-storage facility” in 402.2.2 to allow multiple self-storage buildings on a lot, with limits on the size of each building; prohibit outdoor storage as part of the self-storage use; and create performance standards for self-storage developments. The proposed changes would also add the self-storage facility use to 402.6.2 as an exception to the requirement of only one principal structure on any one lot.

The proposed moratorium on reviewing new self-storage facilities shall remain in effect for one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of applicability of this ordinance, unless extended or modified by the Town council, for the express purpose of drafting amendments to Town ordinances related to self-storage use.
