Town Council Looking for Volunteers to Help with Comprehensive Plan

Work on our Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan) is currently underway and assuring its many goals are successfully implemented will require a coordinated effort.  Toward that end, the Town Council is looking for two volunteers from the community to assist them with this project.

If you are familiar with the Comp Plan (see the links below), have a desire to see our community grow in purposeful and meaningful ways, and have strong organizational and facilitation skills, you could be just the person we need.

The Work

Successful implementation of the Comp Plan will require input and support from people and organizations throughout Gray. Any citizen of Gray or local group who chooses to participate in the many planning and action meetings along with the Town Council, Town Staff, and Town Council Committees and Affiliates will have input into how we execute the plan. To that end, the Town is seeking two volunteer Comprehensive Plan Coordinators to help organize this process and input.

To start, within four to six weeks the Coordinators will:

  • Pull all the “to do's”, goals and completion dates from the Comp Plan.
  • Create a timeline (GANTT chart) to guide and document the work. 
  • Solicit input from all the stakeholders mentioned above.
  • Determine which “to do” or goals are currently being worked on by which stakeholders.
  • Document any hurdles or roadblocks that stand in the way of implementing the plan.
  • Catalog any additional resources or expertise that will be needed.
  • Report to the Council once items are complete.

After the report to Council, the Council, with input from the Coordinators, will determine the next steps.  This could include finding additional volunteers to work with the Coordinators and forming an ad hoc “Comp Plan Coordinating Committee” to oversee the implementation and report on our progress every three or four months.

The Application Process

If you are interested in applying for a Coordinator position, please complete our volunteer application by May 31, 2022. When completing the application and selecting which board or committee you would like to volunteer for, please select "Other" and type in the box below "Comp Plan Volunteer."  A hard copy application can be obtained by calling the Town Hall and requesting a copy.

All Coordinator applicants will be invited to an open-ended discussion of the Comp Plan with the Town Council and Town Staff at a to-be-determined date and time.  After the discussion, the Council may select the Coordinators or, if there are further questions, invite applicants to individual interviews.
