Town of Gray Holds Household Hazardous Waste Collection on August 19

Proof of Gray residency will be required.

Gray residents and property owners can bring their household materials to the Town of Gray Sand and Salt Shed on Seagull Drive in Gray on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Proof of residency will be required.

Acceptable materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Acids (Muriatic, Sulfuric)
  • Ammonia
  • Automobile cleaners
  • Bleach
  • Boat and automobile paints
  • Carburetor cleaner
  • Chrome polish
  • Contact cement
  • Corrosives
  • Degreasers
  • Disinfectants
  • Engine degreasers
  • Fertilizers
  • Fiberglass resin
  • Floor cleaners
  • Fungicide
  • Furniture polish
  • Gasoline
  • Herbicides
  • Lacquer paints and thinners
  • Mineral spirits
  • Moth balls
  • Oven cleaners
  • Paint stripper
  • Pesticides
  • Petroleum-based driveway sealers
  • Pool chemicals
  • Roach and ant killers
  • Rodent poison
  • Roofing cement
  • Rust removers
  • Silver cleaners
  • Toilet and drain cleaners
  • Weed killers
  • Wood preservatives

The following materials are unacceptable both at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and the Transfer Station generally.

  • Ammunition
  • Asbestos
  • Biological or medical waste
  • Explosives
  • Flares and fireworks (contact State Police for disposal)
  • Radioactive materials

For your information, the following materials can be brought to the Transfer Station year-round for disposal.

  • Aerosol cans
  • Anti-freeze
  • Diesel fuel
  • Electronics (copiers, computers and accessories, stereos)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (residential only, no commercial)
  • Home heating oil
  • Latex and oil-based paints and stains (in their original container)
  • Lead-acid batteries.
  • Mercury thermostats
  • Motor oil
  • Power steering fluid
  • Propane tanks (30 gallons and under)
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Televisions
  • Transmission fluid

When transporting hazardous waste, do not mix wastes together. Use original container if possible, or clearly label if contents are known.  Do not transport within the passenger compartment of your vehicle.
