In 1879, Susan Caroline "Susie" Frank Libby (15 Jan 1847 - 16 Dec 1936) became the first female Supervisor of Schools in Gray. She was a Gray native and a long-time schoolteacher. In 1885, Susie married her childhood sweetheart, John S. Libby, when he traveled to Maine on the Trans-Continental Railroad after twenty years in California.
