3. Next Steps & Timing

The study participants are actively working on examining the four future development scenarios (numbers 3, 4, 5, and the "no-build").  In accordance with the Town Council's intentions, there will be a town-wide mailing to all taxpayers in Gray informing them of the upcoming public input workshop on Wednesday, May 14th.  This workshop will present the findings regarding the traffic implications of the scenarios and some additional visuals such as possible representative road cross-sections.  We also expect to provide examples of effective "design guidelines" which are intended to address primarily aesthetic components of possible future commercial development.

Once the Study is complete this coming summer, the Town Council will need to consider the next steps they wish to take.  In the event that the Council opts to not change any zoning along the corridor, the completion of the study still has significant value to both the Town and MaineDOT since there will be an agreed upon vision for this section of the corridor (including intersections) upon which informed decisions can be made.

One immediate objective is to review the options and agree upon appropriate proactive steps to improve both the Libby Hill and North Raymond Road intersection.  Discussions regarding securing the necessary funding to construct intersection corrections can be actively pursued once there is agreement on the necessary changes.
